A review into the killing of Tory Sir David Amess found inquiries into killer Ali Harbi Ali were dropped by the Prevent anti-terror programme too soon. Ali, who was known to Prevent, fatally stabbed Sir David in a horrifying attack in October 2021.
Security Minister Dan Jarvis described Sir David as a “beloved member of this House” and said: “He will never be forgotten.” Ali was referred to the Prevent programme twice – in 2014 and 2016.
Mr Jarvis said the review had found “problematic” failings and that the assessment of the risk Ali posed was “sub-optimal”. “This case was exited from Prevent too quickly,” Mr Jarvis said.
